Central Bank Reports June Market Data: Daily Trading Volume Drops 2.1% Month-on-Month

The People's Bank of China has released its financial market performance report for June 2026.

At the end of June, the Shanghai Composite Index closed at 4094.4 points, marking a month-on-month increase of 0.6%. The Shenzhen Component Index finished at 16205.6 points, rising 4.0% compared to the previous month.

The average daily trading volume across both exchanges in June was 3114.4 billion yuan, representing a 2.1% decrease from the prior month.

In the money market, the average daily turnover for interbank lending in June was 329.22 billion yuan, a year-on-year decline of 21.9%. The average daily turnover for bond repurchases in the interbank market reached 6.2 trillion yuan, down 21.0% from the same period last year.

Outstanding balances at the end of June stood at 0.9 trillion yuan for interbank lending and 10.9 trillion yuan for interbank bond repurchases.

The report also detailed activity in other financial sectors. In the bond market, government bond net financing was 768.33 billion yuan, while corporate bond net financing reached 401.16 billion yuan. The total custody balance of the bond market was 205.0 trillion yuan.

In the derivatives market, the turnover for RMB derivatives in the interbank market was 7.8 trillion yuan. Trading volume for treasury bond futures was 8.6 trillion yuan.

For the gold market, the Au(T+D) contract on the Shanghai Gold Exchange settled at 878.5 yuan per gram at the end of June. Total gold trading volume on the exchange was 6491.2 tonnes.

In foreign exchange, the closing price for the RMB against the US dollar in the interbank market was 6.7852 at the month's end.

The report concluded with data on the holder structure of the interbank bond market, which had 3,819 institutional members, all of which are financial institutions.
