Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing released its latest 2024 Sustainability Report on Friday. The report shows that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's global workforce has reached 84,512 people, with over 10,000 new employees added throughout the year.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's 2024 total employee compensation (including base salary, allowances, cash bonuses, and remuneration) reached a record high of NT$3.57 million (approximately RMB 834,000 at current exchange rates), significantly higher than the average levels of global high-performance enterprises and high-tech companies.
Taking newly hired master's degree graduate engineers at Taiwan facilities and Picking Technology Corporation as an example, their 2024 average compensation exceeded NT$2 million (approximately RMB 467,000 at current exchange rates). Frontline employees' 2024 average total compensation exceeded NT$1 million.
Additionally, in 2024, the median total compensation for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's global employees (excluding pensions and benefits) was approximately NT$2.46 million (approximately RMB 574,000 at current exchange rates), with a ratio of approximately 1:384 compared to the CEO's total compensation. The ratio of the CEO's annual total compensation increase percentage to the median annual average total compensation increase percentage was approximately 49:1.
Compared to the previous year, Taiwan facilities saw year-over-year growth in the number of full-time employees, average salary, and median salary in 2024.
Since 2022, all full-time employees of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and its 100% owned subsidiaries have been eligible to participate in the "Global Employee Stock Purchase Plan." In 2023, this plan was further expanded to include all full-time employees of major overseas subsidiaries. The company provides a 15% stock purchase subsidy, encouraging employees to buy company shares and share in long-term growth results, with over 85% of global employees participating in the plan.
From 2020 to 2024, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's annual total employee compensation expenses increased from approximately NT$140.8 billion to approximately NT$301.8 billion (approximately RMB 70.477 billion at current exchange rates), while annual per capita compensation expenses grew from NT$2.47 million to NT$3.57 million, an increase of 44.5%.
According to a 2023 employee opinion survey, 84% of employees consider the company's overall compensation reasonable, a proportion superior to global high-performance enterprises (66%) and high-tech companies (61%).
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's Taiwan facilities implement a two-year reward scheme that includes quarterly "employee cash bonuses" and "employee cash remuneration" distributed the following year, while overseas facilities provide annual cash bonuses or 1-3 year long-term incentive bonus plans based on local market conditions and national circumstances.
