Baijiu Market Update: Wuliangye and Gujing Gongjiu Surge While Premium Moutai Slips

Aug 21

Data collected over the past 24 hours by the liquor price monitoring desk shows that on August 21, among the 11 major baijiu products tracked, four advanced, six declined, and one held steady, highlighting a consolidating market tone.

On the upside, Wuliangye Yibin Co.,Ltd.'s Puwu Eighth Generation rose 7 yuan to an average terminal retail price of 808 yuan, marking a second consecutive gain and firmly holding above the 800 yuan threshold. Gujing Gongjiu's Gu20 jumped 10 yuan to 541 yuan, staging a strong rebound that alleviated recent correction pressure. Qinghua Fen 20 edged up 1 yuan to 394 yuan, continuing its high-level range-bound movement. Yanghe's Dream Blue M6+ gained 2 yuan to 611 yuan, resuming its upward trajectory after a brief pullback.

On the downside, Kweichow Moutai Co.,Ltd.'s Feitian Moutai declined 3 yuan to 1,785 yuan, undergoing a technical correction following yesterday's sharp advance. Premium Moutai slipped 4 yuan to 2,474 yuan, marking a seventh straight session of modest declines. Wuliangye 1618 eased 1 yuan to 825 yuan, ending a two-day winning streak and remaining range-bound. Xijiu Junpin dropped 7 yuan to 636 yuan, snapping a four-day rally and falling below the recent range midpoint. Qinghua Lang fell sharply by 9 yuan to 702 yuan, concluding a short-term surge, with market watchers eyeing whether it can defend the 700 yuan level. Shuijing Jiannanchun declined 1 yuan to 405 yuan, retreating from its monthly high.

Guojiao 1573 held steady, with average terminal retail prices maintained at 876 yuan. The combined terminal retail value of all 11 products declined for a seventh consecutive session, with only a handful of items bucking the trend. Most premium baijiu brands are entering a price correction phase, underscoring the continued divergence across the board. If one bottle of each of the 11 products were bundled for sale, the total price today would be 10,057 yuan, down 5 yuan from yesterday and hitting an eight-day low.

Daily pricing data is sourced from approximately 200 collection points distributed across major regions nationwide, including designated dealers, social distributors, e-commerce platforms, and retail outlets. Raw sampling data reflects actual transaction-based terminal retail prices from the past 24 hours, aiming to provide objective, scientific, and fully traceable market pricing for major baijiu products.

Since the official iMoutai platform began selling Feitian Moutai at 1,499 yuan per bottle on New Year's Day (raised to 1,539 yuan on March 31, then to 1,639 yuan on July 18), and Premium Moutai at 2,299 yuan per bottle starting January 9 (raised to 2,359 yuan on May 16), this new sales channel has exerted a growing gravitational pull on terminal retail prices for both products. Daily published prices follow a volume-weighted calculation rule, with verifiable quantities from this channel incorporated into the terminal retail price calculations for these two products.

On the industry front, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on August 19 shows that production by large-scale baijiu enterprises reached 197,000 kiloliters in July, a year-on-year decline of 8.8%. Cumulative production for January through July totaled 1.89 million kiloliters, down 4.4% year on year. Comparatively, the cumulative decline through June stood at 4.7%, meaning the July data narrowed the overall reduction pace. June's single-month output fell 9.1% year on year, while July's decline eased slightly to 8.8%. July is traditionally a low season for baijiu production, as mainstream grain-feeding and distillation schedules for both strong-aroma and sauce-aroma varieties typically fall outside this period. It is worth noting that the statistical scope covers only enterprises with annual main business revenue of 20 million yuan or above, excluding smaller producers.
