On January 23, the inauguration ceremony for CALB's power battery and energy storage battery base project was held in the Zigong High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The Zigong project represents another significant strategic move by CALB in Sichuan Province and is expected to be completed and operational within the year. Zigong has designated this project as its top priority "Project Number One" for the year, committing all necessary resources to ensure its swift construction, prompt commencement of production, and rapid achievement of operational efficiency.
As a globally leading new energy enterprise, CALB is actively expanding its global footprint in Europe and ASEAN while maintaining a strong domestic focus. Within Sichuan, the company has already established production bases in locations such as Chengdu and Meishan. In response to sustained rapid production growth, the company decided to set up an additional production base. Upon learning of this opportunity, Zigong immediately initiated contact and efficiently facilitated the project's landing, completing the entire process in less than four months. A company representative stated that the Zigong project will serve as a crucial pivot to drive synergistic development across the industrial chain and promote the aggregation and transformation of scientific and technological innovation resources.
In recent years, Zigong has initially built a power and energy storage battery industrial chain covering areas like electrolytes and high-performance conductive materials. Companies including China National BlueStar (Zhonghua Lantian), Jiangsu Guotai, and Wuxi Dongheng have successively established a presence in the area, creating synergistic linkages with nearby lithium battery industrial clusters in cities like Yibin and Suining. Furthermore, Zigong maintains a regular reserve of nearly a thousand acres of readily available industrial land, which can support the rapid commencement of construction for such projects.
In 2025, Zigong's GDP successfully surpassed the 200 billion yuan mark, with the new energy industry becoming a major pillar of its economic growth. The establishment of this project holds significant strategic importance for Zigong's industrial upgrading and will powerfully drive the aggregation of high-quality production capacity from the new energy battery industrial chain within the city.
Sichuan Province has incorporated new energy vehicles and power batteries (including energy storage) into its "15+N" key industrial chains and is making sustained efforts to build a world-class power battery industrial cluster. Cities including Chengdu, Yibin, Suining, and Meishan have already formed a multi-nodal industrial landscape supported by the presence of leading enterprises such as CATL, Tianqi Lithium, and SVolt. In 2025, the province's output of power and energy storage batteries accounted for one-fifth of the national total.
