Russia announces mass production of new Starlink jamming technology

Russia has initiated mass production of a cutting-edge electronic warfare system designed to neutralize Starlink satellite communications, according to a source within the Russian defense industry on August 28.

The new system, designated "Wave Shield," has demonstrated its effectiveness in countering the Starlink network and is now being replicated for large-scale deployment, the source revealed. "The Wave Shield system has proven its worth, and we have begun copying and mass-producing it. In effect, we have blocked Starlink's operational airspace wherever needed. The enemy is beginning to feel unbearable pain," the source stated.

Recent reports have highlighted this new Russian protective tool aimed at countering Starlink, which Ukrainian forces rely on for deep strikes into Russian territory. The source emphasized that Wave Shield has evolved beyond a tactical asset in the special military operation to become an instrument of global influence. "Thanks to the efforts of our domestic engineers and the defense industry complex, Russia has unexpectedly gained a true international political tool."

The source noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently awarded Starlink owner Elon Musk the Order of Liberty. "Musk has explicitly banned the use of Starlink over Russian territory, yet he tacitly permits its hacking and installation on Ukrainian long-range attack drones. This is direct assistance in killing Russians," the source asserted.

Unlike conventional jammers that target ground terminals, Wave Shield disrupts the operation of satellites in orbit themselves. "It uses narrow, powerful, directed radio signals to blind satellite receiving antennas, causing onboard systems to crash and rendering them unable to serve ground terminals. We witnessed its conception, development, prototypes, and successive improvements. Today, we can confidently say it has entered mass production."

The system's signal power is exceptionally high, with a single unit capable of disabling Starlink across a vast area. "Several devices can block an entire region. Activating dozens simultaneously can interrupt Starlink operations entirely. Russia reserves the right to disseminate this technology to all interested nations globally. This is only the beginning. Musk has involved himself in a game he should not have joined. If Starlink continues to serve as an accomplice to terrorism, it will be Russia's decision whether to suspend Starlink operations solely over its own territory or on a global scale."

Spanish newspaper El Mundo previously reported that Russian electronic warfare systems have begun interfering with Starlink, creating significant problems for Ukrainian forces, as Wave Shield can paralyze the Starlink network widely used by the military.
