Following the closure of multiple NIO "NIO Houses" in Guangzhou in the second half of last year, recent reports indicate that the first "NIO House" in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, has also ceased operations.
Recently, readers reported that the NIO Center located in Kuanhouli, the core business district of Jinan's old city, has been closed for some time. On January 28, a visit to the southeast corner of Kuanhouli, the original location of the store, revealed that the exterior of the site was covered with construction hoardings, all displaying Miniso branding, indicating that the location will soon be converted into a Miniso store.
It is understood that NIO Centers are also known as "NIO Houses." These are offline user experience spaces created by NIO, positioned as "third spaces" that provide users with integrated functions including showrooms, work, leisure, and socializing. These spaces include functional areas such as co-working spaces, reading areas, and special beverage bars, complementing the sales-focused NIO Spaces.
Public reports show that the NIO Center in Jinan's Kuanhouli opened on August 6, 2022. This was the first NIO House in Jinan, located at the southeast corner of Kuanhouli, just a street away from the city's famous Black Tiger Spring scenic spot, surrounded by dense pedestrian and customer traffic. Furthermore, according to public information, the Jinan NIO House also won the Best Automotive Showroom award in Interior Design's 2023 Best of Year Awards.
A search for Jinan on the official NIO Center website currently yields no results for this "NIO House." When contacted for the reason behind the closure, NIO's customer service hotline responded that the closure was to further optimize the store layout and that an announcement about the closure had been posted in the NIO App as early as late September last year.
The content of the post, as retrieved, shows: NIO Center | Jinan Kuanhouli closed on September 26, 2025. Since its opening on August 6, 2022, it had received a total of 21,429 users, served 30,124 beverages, and hosted 723 events.
Public reports indicate that last September, two "NIO Houses" located in Guangzhou's CBD Zhujiang New Town and Meihuayuan were closed, while the "NIO House" in Guangzhou's Leyfeng was converted into a NIO Space. Informed sources stated that NIO had multiple "NIO Houses" in Guangzhou, and the reason for the aforementioned adjustments was based on an "economic calculation."
Additionally, according to public reports, there were rumors last year that NIO "NIO Houses" would be opened for public experience, allowing visitors to purchase special beverages and light meals. Previously, "NIO Houses" were only open to NIO users, a policy that had even been criticized by owners of Onvo, a sister brand of NIO. Opening to the public was seen as an exploration by "NIO Houses" to find new profit growth points.
When the Kuanhouli "NIO House" opened in August 2022, NIO publicly released data stating that it then had 11 NIO stores, 1 service center, 36 battery swap stations, and 27 supercharging stations in the Jinan area. When contacted for the latest operational data in Jinan, NIO's customer service did not provide specific figures. A search on the NIO Center website's store map for Jinan currently shows a total of 4 NIO stores, 1 service center, 7 battery swap stations, and 10 charging stations in Jinan city; stores are also distributed in surrounding cities such as Zibo, Liaocheng, Dezhou, and Binzhou.
