CHINA MERCHANTS (00133) has released its interim results for 2026, revealing a significant swing into the red. The company recorded investment income of $10.25 million, marking a substantial increase of approximately 5.05 times year-on-year.
However, the company posted a net loss of approximately $59.77 million for the period, a stark reversal from the profit reported in the same period last year. The loss per share stood at $0.392. Despite the downturn, the board has declared an interim dividend of 5 US cents (or HK$0.390) per share, along with a special interim dividend of 7 US cents (or HK$0.546) per share, bringing the total payout to 12 US cents (or HK$0.936) per share.
The shift from profit to loss is primarily attributed to a decline in the overall appreciation of financial assets measured at fair value through profit or loss. The net loss on these financial assets for the period was approximately $112 million, compared to a net gain of approximately $189 million in the corresponding period last year. Within this, the group's listed and unlisted investment projects recorded a net loss of approximately $134 million and a net gain of $21.87 million, respectively.
