The URKL Urban Challenge Tour officially launched its first stop in Baoshan, Shanghai, on the afternoon of September 20th. The successful hosting of the Shanghai leg marks a significant step forward in the commercialization of the URKL Global Humanoid Robot Freestyle Fighting League.
Organized by the Baoshan District People's Government and hosted by Shanqing Robot Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., with strong support from the Shanghai Robot Industry Park, the event highlighted the region's commitment to advancing robotics innovation. Shanqing Robot, a joint venture between Gucun Industrial Company and Zhongqing Robot, serves as a key entity for Zhongqing's localized operations and industrial collaboration in Shanghai. Its business spans the full chain, including embodied robot scenario training, technical services, equipment leasing and sales, science education exhibitions, research-based learning, and vocational training.
Notably, the event showcased the robots' fully autonomous arena combat capabilities in a live complex setting with thousands of spectators. The competition demonstrated an end-to-end closed-loop AI system that integrates perception, situational assessment, strategy decision-making, motion planning, and execution. Robots autonomously navigated into the octagonal cage, identified opponents' postures, predicted movement trends, and selected optimal interaction actions based on real-time status. They continuously tracked opponents and dynamically adjusted their attack strategies.
At the core, the robots rely on high-torque joint actuation, low-latency control loops, external force estimation, and balance compensation mechanisms to maintain stability amidst physical impacts and execute strategic maneuvers reliably. Looking ahead, Zhongqing plans to establish an integrated robotics industry benchmark ecosystem in Baoshan, combining "technology platforms, application scenarios, distinctive cultural IPs, and a regional headquarters," thereby contributing to Shanghai's goal of building a world-class robotics industry cluster.
