Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared personal details about his partner, Shivon Zilis, during an appearance on Nikhil Kamath's podcast, surprising many who were previously unaware of her background. Musk revealed that Zilis is of half-Indian descent.
The CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X made an offhand comment during the podcast that quickly went viral on social media, sparking memes, discussions, and widespread curiosity. While appearing on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath's podcast *WTF is?*, Musk openly discussed his family, partner Shivon Zilis, and the influence of Indian talent in the U.S. His statement—"My partner Shivon is half-Indian"—particularly ignited online buzz.
During the podcast, Musk shared insights about Zilis that caught many off guard. "My partner Shivon is half-Indian," he said, adding that one of their sons has the middle name "Shekhar," inspired by legendary Indian-American astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar—a Nobel laureate renowned for his pioneering work on stellar evolution.
**Who is Shivon Zilis?** The 38-year-old Zilis, known for her leadership role at Neuralink, has an impressive professional background. Born in Canada, her father is Canadian while her mother, Sharda N., is of Indian descent. Even before her association with Musk brought her into the public eye, Zilis had already built a distinguished academic and career record.
A Yale graduate with dual degrees in economics and philosophy, Zilis has held key positions at several top AI organizations. Before joining Neuralink in 2017, she served as a board member and advisor at OpenAI and as a project director at Tesla. She has also contributed to institutions like the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute and the Vector Institute.
Zilis was named to *Forbes*' "30 Under 30" list in venture capital (2015) and later to LinkedIn’s "Top 35 Under 35," reflecting her growing influence in the tech industry.
Musk also disclosed that Zilis was adopted in Canada as a child. "I don’t know all the details, but her biological father was apparently an exchange student at a university," he said. Musk and Zilis have four children together: twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia, and son Seldon Lycurgus. The revelation of their names—especially the nod to Chandrasekhar—further piqued public interest.
**Musk Praises Indian Talent** During the conversation, Kamath pointed out that many Indians refer to the emigration of skilled professionals to the U.S. as a "brain drain." Musk responded by praising Indian-origin talent, stating, "The U.S. has benefited tremendously from the brilliant Indians who have come here over the years."
He emphasized that Indian professionals have made significant contributions to U.S. advancements in technology, innovation, and industry leadership.
