CGN New Energy: July 2026 Generation Slips 5.5% YoY as Mainland Wind and Gas Output Weaken; Korea Boosts Growth

Bulletin Express
Aug 12

CGN New Energy reported that consolidated power generation in July 2026 fell 5.5% year on year to 1,635.6 GWh. The contraction was led by double-digit declines in mainland wind and gas-fired production, partly offset by higher output from South Korea.

PRC operations: • Wind: 785.0 GWh, down 11.3% YoY, reflecting materially lower average wind speeds in core regions. • Solar: 328.5 GWh, down 1.2% YoY, broadly stable. • Gas-fired: 36.5 GWh, down 36.3% YoY after a sharp reduction in dispatch volumes at the Hubei plant. • Hydro: 33.1 GWh, down 5.4% YoY.

South Korea: • Output rose 7.3% YoY to 452.5 GWh, supported by the commercial start-up of the Daesan II gas-fired facility on 24 July 2026.

Cumulative performance for the first seven months of 2026 showed total generation of 10,942.9 GWh, 2.7% lower than the same period in 2025. Within this: • PRC wind declined 16.9% to 5,308.6 GWh. • PRC solar expanded 27.2% to 1,891.1 GWh, the only mainland segment to post growth. • PRC gas-fired slipped 25.4% to 58.8 GWh. • PRC hydro increased 7.1% to 127.4 GWh. • Korea projects delivered 3,557.0 GWh, up 12.1% YoY.

Management attributes the July downturn mainly to weaker wind resources and lower utilisation at the Hubei gas-fired plant. Conversely, the commissioning of Daesan II underpinned the Korean segment’s resilience.
