Gong Yu Discusses Actor Authorization: AI Enables More Projects and Explores Long-Term Revenue Sharing

At the iQiyi World Conference held on the morning of April 20, iQiyi Inc. founder and CEO Gong Yu delivered a keynote speech. He addressed the topic of actor authorization for AI applications.

Recently, iQiyi Inc. announced that its AI agent platform, "Nadou Pro," has officially opened to external partners and entered a pre-commercial phase. It is understood that the platform has already launched features related to actor authorization.

During the conference, Gong Yu elaborated on actor AI authorization. He stated that the current list of authorized actors on iQiyi Inc. primarily indicates their willingness to participate in AI-generated content creation, but specific terms still require further negotiation. The rules remain entirely consistent with those applied in live-action productions.

Gong Yu emphasized, "Whether an actor is willing to join a project or portray a specific role requires their consent, typically arranged through agents or agencies. An actor agreeing to authorize their likeness for one project or role does not imply consent for any other projects or roles. There is no change from the current business model."

Regarding actor compensation under AI creation models, Gong Yu revealed that the initial guaranteed payment might be relatively lower. He explained, "Actors may earn slightly less per project, but if they previously took on two projects a year, they could now participate in four." However, he also cautioned, "They cannot take on 14 projects either; oversaturation is not beneficial."

Furthermore, Gong Yu suggested exploring a revenue-sharing mechanism in the future. He indicated that if a production generates higher income and profits, a profit-sharing model among producers, investors, and actors could create long-term aligned interests.
