Recent data reveals the February 2026 rankings for popular applications, encompassing both download and revenue charts. The Spring Festival holiday period in February spurred significant growth for numerous apps capitalizing on the seasonal traffic surge. The top four positions on the download chart were all occupied by AI-powered products. ByteDance's "Doubao" maintained its position at number one from January. Securing the second, third, and fourth spots were Alibaba's "Qianwen," Ant Group's "Ant Afu," and Tencent's "Yuanbao," respectively. As the holiday approached, a "red packet battle" intensified within the mobile internet sector. Unlike previous years, the 2026 competition centered squarely on AI applications, with industry leaders like Tencent (00700), Alibaba (09988), and ByteDance making significant pushes. On February 1st, "Yuanbao" initiated a "1 billion cash red packet" campaign. This was followed on February 6th by "Qianwen" launching its "Spring Festival 30 Billion Freebies" promotion, which integrated various Alibaba ecosystem services. "Doubao" entered the fray on February 10th with its "Doubao Celebrates New Year" event, culminating in a deep collaboration with the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on Lunar New Year's Eve. These AI applications demonstrated remarkable momentum during the holiday period, becoming a major focus for the month. Six new entrants appeared in the top 30 downloads. Notably, ByteDance's newly launched "Doushengsheng" app debuted strongly at number nine. Launched on February 10th, this independent app for Douyin's group-buying business signifies a new phase of investment in local services. The app covers a wide range of in-store consumption scenarios. While its interface resembles Douyin's group-buying section, "Doushengsheng" adopts a minimalist approach without short videos or live commerce, allowing users to browse and purchase deals directly. Its account system is integrated with Douyin, creating a seamless user journey. Data shows the app topped the App Store's free shopping chart for multiple days, indicating strong growth. Shopping apps were the most numerous category among new entrants, reflecting high consumer demand during the holiday. Efficiency and entertainment apps followed, each with four new entries. ByteDance led among publishers with 12 apps on the chart, followed by Alibaba with six. On the revenue chart, the top five positions remained unchanged from the previous month: "Douyin," "Tencent Video," "QQ Music," "Jianying," and "NetEase Cloud Music." Alibaba's "Alipay" saw a significant jump, rising eight spots to enter the top ten. For its Spring Festival marketing, "Alipay" continued its classic "Collect Five Fortunes" campaign, introducing innovations such as a "Health Fortune" distributed by the AI app "Ant Afu." New features included using AI to scan logos for fortunes and making payments to receive fortune cards. These enhancements, combined with the traditional event, effectively boosted user engagement. Tencent's social app "QQ" successfully entered the revenue top 20, driven by targeted holiday promotions. The return of the classic game "QQ Farm" on February 6th attracted both nostalgic users and new players. Furthermore, the launch of an AI feature allowing users to create 3D avatars for videos contributed to increased activity and revenue for "QQ." Music apps were the most prevalent category on the revenue chart, with eight entries, followed by entertainment apps with six. Tencent was the leading publisher with seven apps on the revenue chart, followed by Alibaba and ByteDance, each with four. The February 2026 app rankings highlight how the Spring Festival period and the AI technology wave injected strong vitality into the mobile app market, with significant growth observed across shopping, social, and other sectors.
