Stock Track | Lam Research Plunges 5.11% in Pre-Market on CEO's $11.7 Million Share Sale and Semiconductor Sector Weakness

Lam Research's stock experienced a pre-market plunge of 5.11% on Tuesday, extending recent losses in the semiconductor equipment sector.

The sharp decline was driven by President and CEO Timothy Archer's sale of 30,000 shares totaling approximately $11.7 million, which compounded existing negative sentiment. The broader semiconductor sector faces selling pressure due to concerns over AI compute overcapacity after Meta announced plans to sell surplus computing resources, coupled with AI agent development progress falling short of expectations.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index had previously plunged 11% over two consecutive sessions, reflecting continued sector-wide weakness. Peer companies including Applied Materials, KLA, Teradyne, and ASML also traded lower, indicating the pressure is not isolated to Lam Research.
