His appointment marks the end of DeepSeek's three-year vacancy in the CFO position, which had remained unfilled since the company's inception. News that Yan Wentao would take on the CFO role at DeepSeek had already surfaced as early as last week.

Reports indicate that over the past two months, several other young partners from leading venture capital firms had also competed for the CFO position at DeepSeek. Yan Wentao, born in 1991, graduated from Fudan University. Between 2013 and 2020, he held positions at Tencent Investment and H Capital. He joined Hillhouse Ventures in 2020, establishing himself as a representative young investor of the post-1990s generation in the industry, and was selected for the "F40 China Young Investors" list in 2025.
