博通高级副总裁Ram Velaga指出，Tomahawk Ultra的目标是与英伟达的NVLink Switch芯片竞争。后者虽功能相似，但Tomahawk Ultra能连接四倍数量的芯片，并采用加速版以太网协议取代专有技术。这种设计使数据中心建设者能将更多芯片紧密互联，实现“scale-up”计算模式，为AI开发者提供强大的算力支持。
台积电已负责Tomahawk Ultra系列处理器的制造，采用五纳米先进工艺。产品现已开始出货。博通工程团队耗时约三年开发此芯片，最初针对高性能计算市场设计；随着生成式AI热潮兴起，公司迅速调整策略，使其适应AI企业的规模化需求。
