Global powers are racing to secure dominance in emerging technologies. French President Emmanuel Macron is set to announce on Friday that France will commit an additional €1 billion to its quantum strategy and allocate €550 million to a support plan for the microelectronics industry.

This announcement comes a day after the Trump administration revealed plans to invest $2 billion in nine quantum computing companies, aiming to solidify U.S. leadership in this frontier field, seen as the next major advancement after artificial intelligence.

With continuous breakthroughs across various technologies, quantum computing—which can accelerate tasks like drug discovery, financial modeling, and cryptography—is increasingly attracting investor interest due to its vast potential.

Théau Peronnin, CEO of quantum computing company Alice & Bob, told Reuters that nations are recognizing the growing importance of computing infrastructure for economic development, leading to a significant surge in related investments.

The company is set to receive funding from France's new initiative. On Friday, it also disclosed an investment from NVIDIA's venture arm, aimed at developing hardware for low-error-rate quantum computing.

Alice & Bob specializes in cat qubits, a type of quantum bit known for superior resistance to interference and error tolerance compared to conventional qubits, addressing a core challenge in the quantum computing industry.

The company, which completed a €100 million Series B funding round last year, is receiving this fresh capital injection. It has also recently engaged in several project collaborations with NVIDIA.

Additionally, the company is participating in France's PROCHEMA quantum project, led by the Ministry of Defense. The goal of this project is to develop two prototypes of French-made, general-purpose quantum computers by 2032 and achieve industrial application.
