The central parity rate of the Chinese yuan against the US dollar was set at 6.7808 on August 20th, marking an upward adjustment of 46 basis points from the previous trading day. This level represents the strongest fixing since February 8, 2023, signaling continued momentum in the yuan's recent appreciation trend.

Market data from CME Group's FedWatch tool indicates that investors currently assign a 67.3% probability that the US Federal Reserve will maintain its benchmark interest rate unchanged at its September policy meeting. Meanwhile, the odds of a 25-basis-point rate hike stand at 32.7%.

Looking ahead to the October meeting, the probability of the Fed holding rates steady is estimated at 58.3%, while the chances of a 25-basis-point increase and a cumulative 50-basis-point hike are projected at 37.3% and 4.3%, respectively. These expectations for US monetary policy continue to influence currency market dynamics and the trajectory of the yuan-dollar exchange rate.
