YANCOAL Australia (03668) announced its 2025 financial results, reporting revenue of A$5.949 billion, a decrease of approximately 13% compared to the previous year. Profit attributable to shareholders was A$440 million, down about 64% year-on-year. Basic earnings per share stood at 33.4 Australian cents, with a final cash dividend of A$0.1220 per share.
The decline in revenue was primarily due to a 15% decrease in coal sales revenue, which fell from A$6.766 billion in 2024 to A$5.779 billion in 2025. The overall average selling price of the group's self-produced coal dropped by 17%, from A$176 per ton in 2024 to A$146 per ton in 2025. This reduction was mainly driven by a decline in global coal prices denominated in U.S. dollars. During the same period, the weekly average price of the GCNewc thermal coal index fell by US$30 per ton (22%), the API5 index weekly price decreased by US$16 per ton (18%), and the Platts semi-soft coking coal index weekly average price declined by US$28 per ton (19%). These effects were partially offset by a 2% depreciation of the Australian dollar against the U.S. dollar, with the exchange rate moving from an average of 0.6603 in 2024 to 0.6449 in 2025.
The average selling price for thermal coal decreased from A$160 per ton to A$136 per ton, while the average selling price for metallurgical coal declined from A$276 per ton to A$203 per ton.
In 2025, YANCOAL Australia's profit attributable to shareholders of A$440 million was impacted by several non-operating items. The total net pre-tax loss from these items amounted to A$62 million. This included a A$51 million fair value loss from the reversal of hedging reserves, A$44 million in contingent royalty payments, a A$25 million loss from the remeasurement of royalty receivables, and A$5 million in stamp duty related to the acquisition of a 3.75% interest in the Moolarben project. These losses were partially offset by a A$41 million gain from the remeasurement of contingent royalties and a net gain of A$22 million from the Donaldson sales transaction.
