To carry forward the traditional virtue of respecting and caring for the elderly, safeguard the health of older residents, and deliver practical services that benefit the people, the Zhubu Township government recently partnered with the local health center and coordinated with Longzhou County People's Hospital to launch a free health screening program for residents aged 65 and above as well as those with chronic diseases, bringing considerate medical services directly to people's doorsteps.
Careful organization ensures warm services reach every home. In the early stages, village committees actively cooperated with the township health center, using village WeChat groups, door-to-door notifications, and other channels to spread the word widely, ensuring that all eligible residents were informed and able to participate. At the event sites, village officials and medical staff divided responsibilities and worked together, guiding residents to line up in an orderly manner and register their information, keeping everything running smoothly.
Comprehensive screening items guarantee thorough health checks. The screening covered a wide range of tests including routine blood work, liver function, kidney function, electrocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound, and chest X-rays. Medical personnel carefully examined every participant, patiently inquiring about their daily habits, medical history, and medication use, and offered targeted health guidance. For those with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, medical staff provided on-site medication guidance and health education, reminding them to take their medicine on schedule, maintain a balanced diet, exercise appropriately, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Residents give thumbs up as practical measures warm hearts. To bridge the "last mile" of elderly health services, the program focused on caring for vulnerable senior groups. For elderly residents who are advanced in age, living with disabilities, living alone, or without family nearby and have difficulty getting around, staff and medical personnel provided door-to-door transportation and accompanied them throughout the process, effectively solving the travel challenges they face when accessing health checkups. "The government is so thoughtful — they pick us up and drop us off, and the screening is free. It really warms our hearts," said Uncle Nong gratefully after completing his examination. The atmosphere at the event was warm and welcoming, with residents enthusiastically praising this initiative.
According to statistics, the program provided free health screenings to 381 residents aged 65 and above as well as those with chronic diseases, and distributed over 500 copies of health education materials, receiving unanimous praise from the public. Going forward, Zhubu Township will continue to focus on elderly health, regularly carry out health screenings for seniors, chronic disease follow-ups, and health education services, steadily improving the rural elderly care and medical service system to protect the health and happiness of elderly residents in the area.
