China's Association of Volunteer Service for Persons with Disabilities has officially announced the results of the third national evaluation of outstanding volunteer disability assistance service cases, with Hohhot Airport's "Lark Companion, Barrier-Free Travel" program earning national recognition.
The initiative, developed through the airport's "Lark Information" service center in the terminal, addresses the travel difficulties faced by passengers with disabilities across all categories, including visual, hearing, and speech impairments.
Aiming to safeguard equal travel rights, optimize barrier-free experiences, and deepen professional disability support, the project shifts away from fragmented and passive service models. Instead, it has introduced an integrated system that combines advance online booking, targeted on-site assistance, and complete end-to-end support throughout the passenger journey.
For online services, the airport has established a dedicated assistance reservation channel through the Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Group's passenger service platform and the 96777 service hotline. Passengers can specify their needs in advance, allowing for need forecasting, dedicated personnel assignment, and streamlined pre-boarding procedures.
Offline, a team of trained volunteer helpers provides one-on-one full-process support covering ticket inquiries, check-in guidance, accessible security screening, continuous accompaniment, and boarding assistance, ensuring seamless transitions from arrival to departure.
The team also regularly visits children's welfare homes and special education institutions for charitable outreach and volunteer work, extending the airport's attentive services into broader social welfare activities.
According to statistics, the program serves more than 10,000 passengers with disabilities annually, with cumulative service exceeding 200,000 instances. It has successfully supported major events such as the National Special Olympics and Paralympics athlete transportation, blind massage skills competitions, and disability culture festivals, earning a letter of appreciation from the Hohhot Disabled Persons' Federation.
The service has maintained a flawless record with zero errors, zero complaints, and zero accidents throughout its operations. The program has been recognized as a "Lei Feng Volunteer Service Station" and a "Sunshine Disability Assistance Volunteer Service Station," with 100% response rates for online reservations and 100% satisfaction scores from service recipients, drawing widespread praise from passengers, industry regulators, and the broader community.
