During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Qingyang City in Gansu Province has made remarkable progress in agricultural modernization by focusing on building a modern agricultural powerhouse. The city leveraged its unique cold and arid agricultural resources, achieving significant economic growth. In 2024, the primary industry's added value reached 13.247 billion yuan, while rural residents' per capita disposable income hit 14,200 yuan, marking increases of 35.7% and 36.3% respectively compared to 2020.
**Circular Agriculture Breakthrough** Qingyang pioneered the "tri-element bidirectional" circular agriculture model, integrating crop farming, livestock breeding, and mushroom cultivation. This approach facilitates the bidirectional recycling of agricultural waste among the three sectors, earning recognition as a national model for green agricultural development. The model was listed among the "Second Batch of National Green Agricultural Development Case Studies" and "China's 2023 Local Comprehensive Reform Exemplary Cases." Currently, the resource utilization rates of crop straw, apple pruning waste, livestock manure, and mushroom residues have risen to 91.6%, 65%, 83.5%, and 95%, respectively, delivering both ecological and economic benefits.
**Expansion of Specialty Industries** Following the strategy of "ensuring grain production, expanding livestock, upgrading fruits, increasing vegetables, cultivating mushrooms, and optimizing medicinal plants," Qingyang implemented four major projects to boost specialty industries. The city ranks among the top in the province for grain output and livestock inventory, with broiler chicken production leading for four consecutive years. The mushroom yield reached 40,600 tons, marking a breakthrough from scratch. Notably, Ning County established the largest dwarfing rootstock apple base in China, while Zhenyuan County developed the largest white-feathered broiler production base in Northwest China. Huan County emerged as a major mutton sheep hub, and Xifeng District, Zhenyuan County, and Ning County each maintain over 100,000 pigs in inventory, forming distinct agricultural advantage zones.
**Strengthening Supply Chains and Branding** Qingyang deepened agricultural industrialization by establishing two national modern agricultural industrial parks, five provincial-level parks, and four national strong agricultural towns. The city attracted and nurtured 389 leading enterprises, built 31 deep-processing production lines, and raised the agricultural product processing conversion rate to 65%, up 10 percentage points from 2020. Branding efforts yielded success, with six regional public brands and 51 corporate trademarks included in the "Ganwei" agricultural product catalog. Qingyang apples and Huan County lamb ranked among China's top 100 regional brands. Companies like Shengyue Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Zhongsheng Sheep Industry were recognized as national leading enterprises and "Top 100 Gansu Private Enterprises," enhancing industrial competitiveness.
Additionally, Qingyang invested over 20 billion yuan in agricultural funds during the "14th Five-Year Plan," setting aside 100 million yuan annually for agricultural loan interest subsidies to mobilize 2.45 billion yuan in private capital. The city achieved full coverage of improved crop varieties and an 80% comprehensive mechanization rate in farming. By improving farmer-industry linkage mechanisms, specialty industries contributed 7,300 yuan per capita income growth for farmers in 2024, up 3,340 yuan from 2020, laying a solid foundation for agricultural modernization and rural revitalization.
