GRCB has drawn attention after being sued by three banks over its "Anxin Return No. 262" product. The product, a non-principal-guaranteed interbank wealth management offering issued by GRCB, is currently under court review, though the bank states this does not affect the operation of its existing wealth management products.
GRCB has positioned wealth management as one of its four core businesses, establishing seven major wealth product systems and 18 product strategies. The bank has consistently ranked highly in rural financial institution wealth management capability assessments and has won multiple industry awards, including the Golden Bull Award for Banking Wealth Management and the Golden Ding Award for Wealth Management.
Earlier reports revealed that GRCB was sued by Ya'an Rural Commercial Bank, Henan Wugang Rural Commercial Bank, and Qinghai Xining Rural Commercial Bank over "Anxin Return No. 262," with claims totaling 60 million yuan, 32 million yuan, and 35 million yuan, respectively. The cases are at various stages of retrial and appeal.
"Anxin Return No. 262" was a three-year wealth management product with an expected annualized return of 4.5%, backed by bonds and pledged repo transactions. The lawsuit stems from GRCB's inability to fulfill payment obligations after a default on an underlying credit bond. Courts are considering consolidating the three cases, with GRCB arguing that the relevant asset management institutions should share liability.
Established in 1952 as Guangzhou Rural Credit Cooperative, GRCB transformed into a commercial bank in 2009 and listed in Hong Kong in 2017. As of Q3 2025, the bank reported total assets of 1.42 trillion yuan, with operating revenue of 11.02 billion yuan and net profit of 1.722 billion yuan for the first nine months, down 2.35% and 18.73% year-on-year, respectively.
