On the evening of August 18, Tmall held a pet brand CEO private meeting in Shanghai, where Shang Yin, head of the pet industry at Taobao and Tmall, disclosed core performance metrics: the overall annual transaction volume exceeded 50 billion yuan.

According to the introduction, since pets were upgraded to a first-level category in 2021, Tmall's pet industry has maintained double-digit growth for four consecutive years, with the industry scale nearly doubling and annual purchasing users surpassing 100 million.

Latest data shows that since the new fiscal year began, young new customers on Tmall's pet platform account for over 30%, showing a significant trend toward younger demographics. Meanwhile, Tmall has gathered the most purchasing-power pet consumer group. Data indicates that during Tmall's 618 shopping festival, 88VIP members accounted for over 50% of purchase amounts in core pet brands.

The "2025 Taobao and Tmall Pet Consumption Trend Insight White Paper" reveals that from a demographic perspective, pet-owning populations show a polarized trend, with those under 24 and over 50 leading in growth rates. From a regional perspective, third-tier cities and below show the fastest growth in pet-owning populations. In terms of purchasing power, increased household pet consumption and high growth in mid-to-high-end price segments demonstrate refined pet care trends.

The White Paper also emphasizes the rise of "specialized pet products" demand, where different breeds, age stages, and sizes of pets have distinct segmented needs, creating many category opportunities reflected in pet health care, diet, and supplies. Shang Yin stated: "From search data, user purchase demands, and consumer research, this is becoming a new growth point for brands."

"From search data, breed and age-specific customized food will be the next growth point," Shang Yin pointed out. Tmall's trend prediction capabilities have already translated into commercial results - since April 2025, the number of new pet products on Tmall has increased by over 20% year-over-year, with high-growth new trend categories accounting for over 30% of transactions.
