Doubao to Discontinue AI Agent Feature, Data Access to Cease After October 15

Doubao has announced the discontinuation of its AI Agent feature, as per an official notification released on July 4th.

The notification states that due to product adjustments, the AI Agent functionality will be deactivated on July 15, 2026. Following the shutdown, users will retain access for a limited period to view and manually save their AI Agent information and historical conversation data within the Doubao platform.

After October 15, 2026, Doubao will process all data related to the AI Agents in accordance with its Privacy Policy. Subsequently, it will be impossible to view or recover this data within the app. The company advises users to back up any important content in advance by taking screenshots or exporting text via the share function.

The notice further mentioned that users can create new AI Agents and initiate conversational services on ByteDance's other application, Cat Box. For those interested, a new AI Agent experience will be available in the Cat Box App going forward.

This move by Doubao is potentially linked to the upcoming "Interim Measures for the Management of Artificial Intelligence Personified Interaction Services," which is scheduled to take effect on July 15, 2026. This regulation imposes strict rules on "personified emotional interaction services," mandating that platforms assume primary responsibility for implementing measures against addiction, protecting minors, and conducting content reviews.
