Mellitah Oil & Gas, a Libyan oil and gas exploration and service operator, has completed the manufacturing and assembly of equipment for the Bouri Gas Utilization Project ahead of schedule. The overall project progress has reached 69%, exceeding the originally planned target of 62%.
The project aims to develop the offshore Bouri gas field, with production start-up scheduled for September 2026. It is designed to utilize up to 125 million cubic feet of gas per day while achieving zero flaring from the field.
Mellitah, a joint venture between Libya's National Oil Corporation and Italy's Eni, announced that a ceremony was held in Ravenna, Italy, marking the completion of the manufacturing phase.
The company stated that the cargo vessel transporting the modules has begun its journey to the Bouri gas field, located approximately 130 kilometers north of Tripoli, and is expected to arrive within 10 days. Following arrival, installation and connection work to Platforms 3 and 4 will commence.
The project involves upgrading offshore facilities and installing subsea pipelines. This includes a 14-inch, 8-kilometer pipeline linking the various platforms, and a 10-inch, 20-kilometer pipeline connecting the Bouri field to the Sabrata platform and the Mellitah industrial complex.
Mellitah indicated that the development contract was awarded to Saipem in August 2023, with a total budget of $1.565 billion. The company added that approximately $928 million had been expended by December 2025.
