Visitors are flocking to Hanzhong, Shaanxi, to witness the spectacular bloom of millions of rapeseed flowers, a sight that is transforming the local economy. "I had long heard that the Hanzhong rapeseed flowers are a 'hidden spring treasure' nestled in the Qinba mountains, and seeing them today certainly lives up to the reputation. Tomorrow, I plan to take a helicopter ride with my family to admire the sea of flowers from the air," said Zhang Yuanxia, a tourist from Guangyuan, Sichuan, on March 18th.

In March, the rapeseed flowers across Hanzhong's vast fields burst into bloom, creating a golden landscape where crested ibises glide and high-speed trains weave through the scenery. This vibrant display is not only a captivating spring vista but also a powerful engine driving local rural revitalization.

The 2026 Hanzhong Tourism and Culture Festival for the Most Beautiful Rapeseed Sea launched on the same day. After seventeen years of development, the event has evolved from a simple flower-viewing activity into a core platform for showcasing the city's image, promoting industrial integration, and expanding rural income streams. Cultural performances, including Hanzhong opera and Southern Shaanxi folk songs, are being staged amidst the flower fields.

"Our elders have grown rapeseed for decades. In the past, they relied on selling rapeseeds for a meager income. Now, with the integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism, our hometown has been completely revitalized," said Yang Na, a young entrepreneur who returned to Huangtang Village in Hantai District, Hanzhong City. "I opened a Southern Shaanxi特色 restaurant near my home, and my personal income has tripled compared to before. When the rapeseed flowers bloom, customers come in a steady stream, and nearby villagers help in the kitchen, earning extra income."

As the rapeseed sea brand grows stronger, more local residents are benefiting from tourism. By opening farm stays, cafes, and特色 homestays, selling local agricultural products, and providing tour services, they are achieving employment and increased earnings close to home. The golden sea of flowers has become a sea of prosperity, activating the endogenous momentum for rural development in the Qinba hinterland.

In Hantai District, the main event venue, immersive activities such as Han-style welcome ceremonies and Three Kingdoms-themed markets are major attractions. Huangtang Village alone receives over ten thousand visitors daily. This flower-based economy has created numerous local job opportunities and boosted related industries like catering, accommodation, and retail.

"Hantai District has launched 50 themed activities and several premium flower-viewing routes. Through measures like distributing consumption vouchers, we are building a development model of 'attracting visitors with flowers, accommodating them with consumption, and transforming through industry,' continuously stimulating consumer activity," said a representative from the Hantai District Commerce Bureau. It is estimated that during the event period, core tourism consumption in accommodation and catering will increase by 12% to 17% year-on-year, with foot traffic in key commercial areas expected to double.

Compared to other rapeseed flower landscapes in China, the Hanzhong flower sea is unique for its deep integration with the Qinba mountain-water topography and Han cultural heritage, forming a distinctive pattern of "landscape + flower sea + culture." This year, Hanzhong City is further developing its floral resources, connecting multiple counties and districts to create a 251-kilometer rapeseed flower sea tourism corridor, 15 premium viewing routes, and 8特色 study tour routes. This initiative deeply links the flower sea with Han dynasty charm, Qinling ecology, and cultural heritage. Simultaneously, diverse smart tourism products are being introduced to transform ecological resources into tangible, experiential, and consumable tourism value.

By integrating cultural performances, investment promotion, and consumption stimulation across various fields, the local area is enriching the tourist experience, building corporate cooperation platforms, and channeling capital, technology, and talent towards the countryside. This effort aids in building a trillion-yuan cultural and tourism industry cluster.

Today, the millions of acres of rapeseed flowers in the Qinba mountains have become a vital vehicle for achieving a win-win situation in ecological protection and economic development. Evolving from a single crop to a diversified economic growth point, and from scattered scenery to a mature industrial brand, the golden flower sea continues to pave a prosperous path for rural revitalization.
