On March 27, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China held its 2025 performance briefing. Looking ahead to key work plans for 2026, President Liu Jun outlined the following priorities:

First, the bank will actively expand comprehensive services. Liu Jun emphasized, "World-class financial institutions are defined by absolute standards—they cannot be self-defined."

So how does ICBC plan to achieve its goal of becoming a world-class financial institution? Liu Jun pointed out that relying solely on a loan-dominated balance sheet would keep the bank far from this objective. Instead, the bank must fully develop modern financial services based on its existing indirect financing structure. This means ICBC must forge its own path in areas such as new productive forces and new infrastructure, transforming from a simple capital intermediary into a comprehensive service provider integrating capital, information, efficiency, and other value elements.

Liu Jun further explained, "If we observe the overall revenue structure of world-class banks, we see that income from traditional credit business remains stable or even declines, while revenue from modern financial services shows an upward trend. This indicates that capital markets may assign higher valuations to modern financial services. It also requires ICBC to pioneer a new path among Chinese financial institutions—integrating our indirect financing-focused balance sheet with modern financial services to achieve our goal of becoming a world-class financial institution."
