The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has unveiled a draft blueprint for a national standards framework in the brain-computer interface (BCI) sector, signaling a major push to accelerate technological standardization and industrial growth. The proposal is now open for public feedback until September 23, 2026, with stakeholders invited to submit their comments via the designated email address.

According to the draft guidelines, the MIIT aims to formulate or revise over 40 BCI-related standards by 2028, while leading or participating in the development of more than 10 international standards. The plan also calls for over 100 companies to engage in the promotion and implementation of these standards, ensuring broad industry alignment and practical application.

Looking further ahead, the ministry projects that by 2030, the cumulative number of standards will exceed 80, with a well-rounded system largely in place. This long-term strategy is designed to boost China's participation in global standard-setting for BCI technology and enhance its overall contribution to the industry's evolution worldwide.
