PAL Aerospace Secures Contract from Air Greenland for DHC-8-200 Aircraft Modification

PAL Aerospace, part of the EIC group, has recently inked a deal with Air Greenland to provide mission modification services for the latter's DHC-8-200 aircraft.

This initiative is designed to enhance the aircraft's versatility for multi-role operations, broadening its utility for specialized missions.

Under this agreement, PAL Aerospace will undertake comprehensive mission system integration and structural modifications for Air Greenland's DHC-8-200 fleet.

The upgrade work will involve installing advanced mission sensor systems, updating communication and navigation equipment, and optimizing the airframe structure to meet diverse operational requirements.

Once modified, these aircraft will be capable of performing a variety of roles, including maritime surveillance, search and rescue, environmental monitoring, and logistical support, significantly boosting Air Greenland's operational flexibility in the Arctic region.

Air Greenland, the national carrier of Greenland, has a long history of providing passenger, cargo, and special mission flights in the Arctic.

The airline operates a fleet of turboprop aircraft suited to Greenland's complex geographical and climatic conditions.

The selection of PAL Aerospace as the modification partner is based on the extensive experience of its Ottawa engineering center, which boasts over five decades in aircraft manufacturing, modification, and maintenance.

A senior vice president at PAL Aerospace stated that this project not only demonstrates the company's technical capabilities in complex aircraft modification programs but also strengthens its long-term partnership with Air Greenland.

The company will leverage its expertise in systems integration, engineering design, and project management to ensure the project is delivered on time and to the required quality standards.

Air Greenland indicated that this modification project is part of its fleet renewal strategy, aimed at enhancing the multi-mission capabilities of its aircraft through the introduction of advanced mission systems.

This will enable the airline to better serve communities and clients in the Arctic region and meet growing demand for specialized missions.

The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, with modifications on the first aircraft expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The entire project cycle is estimated to be approximately two years.

EIC and PAL Aerospace have affirmed their commitment to maintaining close collaboration with Air Greenland to ensure the project progresses smoothly and achieves its intended objectives.
