Two key projects in Hongyan Town have officially begun construction: the comprehensive farmers' market at the orchard and the fruit and vegetable cold-chain storage base in Banju Village.
Relying on paired assistance from Fengxian District in Shanghai and funding support from the Shanghai Yunnan Aid Program, Hongyan Town continues to fill gaps in infrastructure for agricultural product trading and cold-chain preservation, extending the industrial chain for specialty fruits and vegetables and injecting strong momentum into income growth for residents and rural industrial revitalization.
At the construction site of the comprehensive farmers' market project in Fuchang Village, Jixiang Village Committee, Hongyan Town, machinery roars as construction workers press ahead with preliminary work.
The project involves a newly built single-story steel-structure farmers' market with a floor area of 517.61 square meters and a building height of 6.55 meters, along with supporting facilities such as fire access routes and water supply and drainage systems. The estimated total investment is 1.95 million yuan, entirely funded by the second batch of 2026 paired assistance funds from Fengxian District, Shanghai, for the village-and-town twinning program in Midu County under the "Join Hands to Revitalize Villages and Towns" initiative. The construction period is three months, and the project is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of this year.
Once completed, the project will further standardize the local agricultural product trading environment, make it easier for nearby residents to sell fruits and vegetables locally, and invigorate commercial activity in the town.
Meanwhile, the fruit and vegetable cold-chain storage base in Banju Village, Hongyan Town, has also begun construction. The project has a total investment of 8 million yuan, funded by the Shanghai Yunnan Aid Program. It plans to build a 2,300-square-meter steel-structure workshop for air-drying, sorting, and packaging of agricultural products, and a 3,900-square-meter steel-structure cold storage facility, along with 2,600 square meters of site hardening, 150 meters of perimeter walls, and the purchase of equipment including a 3-ton freight elevator and an 80-ton weighbridge. The construction period is eight months, and the project is expected to be completed and put into use by March next year.
The project will provide fruit and vegetable sorting, primary processing, and low-temperature storage services, effectively reducing post-harvest losses of highland fruits and vegetables, enabling off-peak sales, and expanding outbound sales channels for agricultural products.
Once the two industrial projects are completed and put into operation, they will further unleash the development potential of the fruit and vegetable industry in Hongyan Town, help highland specialty agricultural products reach beyond Midu, and benefit more farming households.
