Tencent executes HKD 100.41 million buyback; outstanding shares rise marginally to 9.10 billion

Tencent Holdings Limited (Tencent) filed a Next Day Disclosure Return with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 23 September 2026, detailing a minor option-related share issuance and continued execution of its share-repurchase programme.

A total of 5,280 new ordinary shares were issued on 23 September under the 2023 Share Option Scheme at a weighted average price of HKD 313.49 per share. The issuance increased Tencent’s outstanding share count by just 0.00006%, taking total issued shares (excluding treasury shares) to 9.10 billion.

Tencent also reported ongoing buybacks conducted between 8 and 23 September. Across these sessions, 2.78 million shares were repurchased for cancellation but remained outstanding as of 23 September. On 23 September alone, the company bought back 227,000 shares on the Exchange at prices ranging from HKD 438.80 to HKD 453.60, spending HKD 100.41 million.

Since receiving its latest shareholder mandate on 13 May 2026, Tencent has repurchased 46.93 million shares, representing 0.51474% of the share base on the mandate date. The current authorisation allows for up to 911.80 million shares to be repurchased. Under Hong Kong listing rules, Tencent is restricted from issuing new shares for 30 days following the latest buyback, setting the moratorium to expire on 23 October 2026.
