EchoStar's stock soared 5.25% intraday following news of a premium acquisition offer from Rocket Lab that values the satellite communications company at a significant premium.
The surge comes after Rocket Lab announced a definitive agreement to acquire EchoStar at $54 per share, representing a 24.1% premium to EchoStar's previous closing price. The deal combines Rocket Lab's launch vehicle and satellite manufacturing capabilities with EchoStar's global L-band satellite network and licensed spectrum assets.
Under the transaction terms, EchoStar shareholders will receive $27 in cash plus Rocket Lab stock. The acquisition grants Rocket Lab access to EchoStar's 2.5 million subscribers and creates an end-to-end platform spanning from rockets to satellite communications infrastructure, similar to strategies employed by other major space companies.
