The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency responsible for enforcing laws against workplace discrimination, stated in a court filing on Wednesday that it is investigating Nike over allegations of discriminating against white individuals through its diversity initiatives.

The commission asserted that Nike has refused to comply with a comprehensive subpoena demanding the company provide data on the racial and ethnic composition of its workforce, along with rosters of employees selected for mentorship and career development programs.

According to the commission, it is examining claims that Nike intentionally discriminated against white employees and job applicants, including disproportionately targeting them for layoffs, and requires this information to determine if the company breached federal law.
