China Medical System Holdings Limited announced that on Jul, 15 2026 China’s National Medical Products Administration granted a Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice for CMS-D017, the group’s self-developed oral complement factor B inhibitor, allowing the company to initiate clinical trials in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

CMS-D017 is a selective small-molecule agent that blocks the alternative complement pathway, a mechanism linked to the progression of AMD. The company said pre-clinical studies demonstrated favourable efficacy and safety.

The candidate is also being developed for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, complement-mediated kidney diseases and potentially myasthenia gravis. It previously secured NMPA approvals to begin trials for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria on Jan, 30 2026 and for complement-mediated kidney diseases on Feb, 3 2026.

China Medical System added that, if approved, CMS-D017 would broaden the portfolio of its ophthalmology subsidiary, CMS Vision, alongside existing products Beovu, Lucentis and Augentropfen Stulln Mono Eye Drops.
