GUOQUAN Responds to Maggot Incident in Hot Pot Base: Same Batch Products Tested, No Quality Issues Found

On September 7th, a consumer filed a complaint alleging that they purchased hot pot soup base and ingredients from a GUOQUAN store. The consumer reported experiencing continuous diarrhea the morning after consumption and discovering several white maggots in the remaining hot pot soup. The consumer has filed a complaint with market regulatory authorities in the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou GUOQUAN Food Network Technology Co., Ltd.

In response, GUOQUAN issued a "Statement Regarding the Soup Base Incident," addressing the concerns raised by consumers:

First, following the incident, the company provided products from the same batch to regulatory authorities for inspection. The testing confirmed that products from the same batch had no quality issues.

Second, the production process for the red sour soup product involves colloid grinding and high-temperature sterilization. Throughout production, all raw materials are contained within sealed pipelines and tanks. The final product maintains a pH level between 3.8-4.1, creating conditions that do not support long-term survival of insect eggs.

Third, when consumers use the product, they heat it to 100°C. This high temperature would kill any insect eggs, eliminating the possibility of subsequent hatching into live insects.

GUOQUAN stated: "The consumer in this incident purchased and consumed the product on the evening of August 23rd, then discovered hatched live insects in the untreated soup base at noon the next day. Since the consumer only provided photos and written descriptions, customer service could not determine if there was an actual product defect. Out of consideration for the consumer's feelings, customer service offered a refund and cash compensation, but unfortunately, no agreement was reached."

The company further emphasized: "GUOQUAN has long adhered to the principle that food safety comes first, maintaining zero tolerance for any behavior that endangers food safety. We will continue to monitor this incident and provide updates as developments occur."
