Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced on Thursday that it achieved a record operating profit and sales in the fourth quarter of 2025, driven by robust sales of high-end semiconductor products, including High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), amid a global boom in artificial intelligence (AI).
The company reported an operating profit of 20.07 trillion won (approximately $139 billion) for the quarter, a significant increase from 6.49 trillion won in the same period last year. Revenue rose by 23.8% year-on-year to 93.83 trillion won.
Net profit for the fourth quarter reached 19.64 trillion won, marking a substantial 153.3% increase compared to the same quarter in 2024.
The Device Solutions (DS) division, responsible for chips, also set a historical record with an operating profit of 16.4 trillion won in the fourth quarter, far surpassing the 2.9 trillion won profit from a year earlier, primarily due to strong sales of general DRAM and HBM products.
Samsung Electronics attributed the record-breaking performance to rising global memory prices and robust demand for high-end products, including enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs).
The Device eXperience (DX) division, which encompasses mobile and television businesses, posted an operating profit of 1.3 trillion won for the fourth quarter.
Specifically, the mobile business generated an operating profit of 1.9 trillion won, which was lower than the 2.1 trillion won profit recorded in the same quarter last year.
The home appliance business reported an operating loss of 600 billion won, a sharp contrast to the 200 billion won operating profit achieved in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the loss mainly attributed to global tariff issues.
For the full year 2025, Samsung Electronics announced a net profit of 45.2 trillion won, representing a 31.2% increase year-on-year.
Annual operating profit amounted to 43.6 trillion won, up 33.2% from the previous year. Full-year sales grew by 10.9% to reach 333.6 trillion won.
This result marks the first time that Samsung Electronics' annual operating profit has fallen below that of SK Hynix, which yesterday reported an annual operating profit of 47.2 trillion won for the previous year.
