Global gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti plc (NYSE: AU; JSE: ANG) has announced that a resolution authorizing an off-market share repurchase was approved during its shareholder meeting held on July 23.
According to the company's previously disclosed plan, this buyback program is valued at up to $2 billion. The voting results showed 269,206,760 shares (66.08%) in favor, 138,172,636 shares (33.92%) opposed, and 43,230 votes withheld. Based on the company's total outstanding shares of 505,746,148 as of the record date on June 26, the voter turnout exceeded 80%.
This stock repurchase initiative is a component of the company's capital allocation strategy. The previously released financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2026 highlighted a record free cash flow generation of $1.2 billion and an announced record quarterly dividend. The company will determine the specific timing and scale of the buyback based on prevailing market conditions and its financial position.
