Shandong Province is spearheading the development of a national system for acquiring and sharing geographic data collected by drones, integrating resources from multiple provinces.
This "drone-on-demand" platform has already completed over 12,000 missions, covering a total flight distance exceeding 400,000 kilometers.
Initial Steps and System Integration
Tian Zhongyuan, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Natural Resources, stated that the province is accelerating the construction of an integrated comprehensive sensing system by iteratively upgrading its provincial drone coordination service platform.
Currently, the nationally led system integrates drone resources from provinces including Zhejiang and Guangxi, involving 330 registered entities and over 2,300 registered drones.
This platform operates on a model where task requesters act as "passengers" posting mission orders, and drone companies act as "drivers" accepting these orders.
The next phase involves strengthening the coordinated deployment and shared development of drone stations across provincial, city, and county levels to build a comprehensive "sky-land-sea-network" sensing system covering the entire Shandong region.
Future Development Plans
As this year marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Shandong's natural resources system has outlined plans to leverage new production factors like surveying, mapping, and geographic information to support high-quality development.
Shandong will focus on enhancing the update capability of its foundational geographic "one map" to accelerate the construction of a comprehensive, spatiotemporal, real-scene 3D model of the province.
This involves establishing a provincial spatial reference system centered on BeiDou satellite navigation reference stations, integrating geodetic, elevation, gravity, and depth networks into a unified land-sea framework.
The province will conduct the acquisition and processing of province-wide 0.2-meter resolution aerial remote sensing imagery and 0.25-meter interval laser point cloud data as needed.
This aims to achieve deep integration of land and sea spaces, as well as above-ground and underground spaces, to build the comprehensive 3D model.
Furthermore, Shandong will accelerate the development of an intelligent new foundational surveying and mapping system by successfully piloting the integration of the "Tianditu" platform with the Open Geospatial Engine (OGE Energy Corp).
This includes creating high-quality datasets, building intelligent data factories with a target automation rate of 80% for data production, upgrading the provincial geospatial big data center, and enhancing scenario-based services for confidential basic geographic information data.
The plan also involves developing a new generation of the "Tianditu · Shandong" platform to establish a unified internet portal for spatiotemporal information services.
