It was announced at the Qinghai Provincial Sports Directors Conference held on February 4, 2026, that the province secured 276 million yuan in central government funding during 2025 for the development of 215 public fitness facility projects. Additionally, 95 sports venues across the province were made accessible to the public either free of charge or at a reduced cost.
In 2025, Qinghai Province significantly enhanced public welfare through fitness initiatives. A strong atmosphere of "public participation and public sharing" was fostered by various activities, including the Yellow River Basin Farmers' and Herders' Basketball Tournament for nine provinces, the Northwest Five Provinces Street Dance Open, the Rural Community Tai Chi Exchange Competition, and fitness demonstrations with volunteer services. Furthermore, the provincial sports department collaborated with the Department of Education to organize a provincial U-series competition, and the "Run, Youth!" themed fitness activities attracted participation from students and young people exceeding 200,000人次.
Over the past year, the Xining Municipal Sports Bureau organized more than 170 key sporting events, drawing over 500,000 participants. This established a regular pattern of "weekly activities, monthly competitions, and seasonal themes" throughout the city.
Concurrently, the Haidong Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, Tourism, Radio, and Television focused on enhancing facility quality following full regional coverage. Eight large venues underwent intelligent upgrades, achieving a 100% free opening rate and serving the public over 200,000 times annually.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the province's per capita sports area reached 2.96 square meters, with 25,000 certified social sports instructors available. The proportion of the population regularly engaging in physical exercise reached 38.9%. Wang Xia, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau, stated that over the past five years, the province has conducted sports events and fitness guidance for all demographic groups, with a cumulative total of more than 300 public sports venues opening free of charge or at low cost.
