Albemarle Corporation's stock surged 14.08% during intraday trading on Thursday, following the release of its first-quarter 2026 financial results that far exceeded analyst expectations.

The world's largest lithium producer reported adjusted earnings of $2.95 per share, more than double the consensus estimate of approximately $1.09, while revenue reached $1.43 billion against forecasts. The company also raised its full-year guidance, signaling confidence in continued strong performance. The earnings beat was driven by a significant recovery in lithium prices, which have risen to about $26,000 per metric ton from below $10,000 a year ago, alongside a 37% increase in global lithium consumption this year.

Strong growth in the energy storage market, robust demand from electric vehicle and grid resiliency applications, and supportive supply dynamics have contributed to the improved outlook. Management noted that battery customers have full order books through the beginning of 2027, highlighting sustained demand strength for the key battery metal.
