Data from the recent Qingming Festival holiday shows that tourists from outside Nanjing accounted for 65.1% of all visitors. The Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenery Area, Zhongshan Scenic Area, and Xuanwu Lake Scenic Area were all ranked among the nation's top ten most popular destinations. The top five sites within the city by visitor numbers were the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenery Area, Zhongshan Scenic Area, Xuanwu Lake Scenic Area, Hongshan Forest Zoo, and Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Area. For the upcoming May Day holiday, a variety of cultural and tourism activities are planned across the city. Traffic police will increase patrol deployments and enhance efforts to manage congestion around popular scenic spots, implementing optimized traffic measures in advance to facilitate smooth and green travel.
From May 1st to May 5th, areas such as the Zhongshan Scenic Area, Hongshan Forest Zoo, and Xuanwu Lake are expected to experience large visitor flows throughout the day, while the Confucius Temple-Laomendong area typically gets busy from afternoon until late evening. Daily from 8:30 to 17:30, traffic controls will be in effect in the Zhongshan Scenic Area. Lingyuan Road will be closed to all vehicles except for disabled-access mobility scooters, and several other roads will prohibit motor vehicle access. Buses, pre-booked vehicles, registered vehicles, and intra-park shuttle buses will be permitted to travel according to regulations. In addition to regular bus routes and special holiday lines, shuttle bus services will be available from subway stations including Zhongaili on the east side, Jinling Style on the west side, and Xiamafang, Zhonglingjie, and Xiaolingwei along Zhongshanmen Avenue. Visitors are encouraged to take Subway Line 2 or Line 4 and transfer to these shuttle buses or regular buses to reach the scenic areas. Furthermore, self-driving tourists must make reservations in advance via the official WeChat subscription account "Nanjing Zhongshan Scenic Area," the service account "Zhongshanling Park Ticket Center," or the mini-program "Zhongshan Scenic Area." With the obtained travel permit, they should enter the area via designated routes and park in specified internal parking lots. During the holiday, Nanjing traffic police, in coordination with scenic area management, will send SMS links containing VR reality guides of the scenic areas to visitors with successful parking reservations. The public is advised to plan their navigation before departure.
Additionally, Nanjing traffic police have released QR codes for VR reality guides of the Zhongshan Scenic Area and the Confucius Temple area. Visitors and residents can scan these codes with their phones to access public transport routes and locations of distant parking lots in advance, avoiding the inconvenience of driving into areas with limited parking near the scenic spots.
In the Confucius Temple area, traffic controls will be implemented from 14:00 to 22:00 during the holiday, prohibiting non-reserved vehicles from entering the core zone. Visitors can take Subway Line 1, Line 3, or Line 5 directly to Confucius Temple Station, Wudingmen Station, or Sanshanjie Station. The G3 shuttle bus service will operate between the Confucius Temple and Laomendong areas. Self-driving visitors can park at locations such as the IKEA or Zhonghuacheng parking lots near Daminglu and Kazimen stations on Subway Line 3, then transfer to Line 3 for an approximately 10-minute ride to the Confucius Temple area.
For this May Day holiday, Nanjing traffic police will continue to optimize traffic signal timing and organization along bus shuttle routes, prioritizing services for green travel and enhancing guidance for both public bus and tourist shuttle services. According to Officer Zhang Wei from the Qinhuai District Brigade, since the Spring Festival, passenger volume on the G1 shuttle route near Yingtian Street's Huan Garden City has been significant. The convergence of tour buses, public buses, and large crowds has tested traffic efficiency on major thoroughfares. Recently, the brigade conducted special research and implemented measures, including adding an auxiliary lane traffic signal at the east entrance of Yuhua Road on Yingtian Street and introducing a new peak-hour signal timing plan. These changes, which stagger the passage of vehicles on main and auxiliary roads, aim to improve east-west traffic flow efficiency.
A representative from the Nanjing Traffic Police stated that during the holiday, automated drone patrol cabins and individual drones will be deployed in the Zhongshan Scenic Area and Confucius Temple area to enhance surveillance. Intelligent patrol vehicles may also be deployed as needed to strengthen roadside services. The public is encouraged to stay informed about road conditions, plan routes in advance, and opt for green and convenient travel options whenever possible.
