Chinese researchers from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences have recently achieved a breakthrough in the field of solid-state lithium batteries, providing a new pathway to solve the key challenges of high interface impedance and low ion transport efficiency in solid-state batteries. The research results have been published in the international academic journal "Advanced Materials".
Solid-state lithium batteries are regarded as an important development direction for next-generation energy storage technology due to their high safety and high energy density. However, poor solid-solid interface contact between electrodes and electrolytes in traditional solid-state batteries leads to high ion transport resistance and low efficiency, severely constraining their practical applications.
The research team utilized the design flexibility of polymer molecules, simultaneously introducing ethoxy groups with ion conduction functionality and short sulfur chains with electrochemical activity into the main chain, creating a new material that achieves interface integration at the molecular scale. This material not only possesses high ion transport capability but can also achieve controllable switching between ion transport and storage behaviors in different potential ranges.
According to researchers, the integrated flexible battery constructed based on this material demonstrates excellent bending resistance, capable of withstanding 20,000 repeated bending cycles. When used as a polymer electrolyte in composite cathodes, the composite cathode energy density increased by 86%.
This research provides new material design concepts and research paradigms for developing high-performance, high-safety solid-state batteries.
