China's first domestically developed offshore ultra-high temperature and pressure blowout preventer (BOP) system with high-pressure control, independently designed by North China Petroleum Rongsheng Machinery Manufacturing Co., has successfully completed joint testing at the Exploration Platform No. 6 in Weihai, Shandong. This achievement demonstrates the equipment's capability to handle extreme operational conditions, accelerating the localization of offshore oil and gas exploration and development equipment.
The sea trial rigorously simulated actual drilling conditions. After installation and precise integration with the platform wellhead, the testing team conducted core performance evaluations, including ultra-high-pressure tests at 140 MPa, BOP closure time verification, and high-pressure control system pressure drop tests. Results confirmed stable operation, reliable sealing, and full compliance with design specifications, validating the system's adaptability to operational platforms and reliability under extreme conditions.
As a critical safety barrier in drilling, the ultra-high temperature and pressure BOP system can control wellhead pressures up to 140 MPa, effectively preventing blowout accidents. "With China's deepening offshore oil and gas exploration, high-temperature and high-pressure drilling safety challenges have become increasingly prominent, necessitating enhanced safeguards," said Qu Zhiming, Chief Engineer of North China Petroleum Rongsheng Machinery Manufacturing Co. Previously, such ultra-high temperature and pressure well control equipment was monopolized by foreign companies, creating a technological bottleneck.
Since 2023, the company has intensified R&D efforts, overcoming over 20 key technologies, including high-strength sulfur-resistant pressure-bearing materials. The product has received full certification from China Classification Society (CCS), generated 13 technical reports, completed the design and production of five prototypes and test units, and filed three national invention patents, achieving industry-leading standards.
