Xinjiang's Cotton Output Exceeds 60 Million Tons for the First Time

On December 26, the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2025 cotton production announcement, revealing that the cotton output of Xinjiang, China's primary cotton-producing region, exceeded 60 million tons for the first time, reaching a total of 6.165 million tons, which accounts for 92.8% of the nation's total output.
The announcement shows that the sown area for cotton in Xinjiang was 38.875 million mu, with a yield (ginning turnout) of 158.6 kilograms per mu, both figures showing a slight increase compared to the previous year. The yield per mu in Xinjiang was 10 kilograms higher than the national average yield for cotton.
