Standard & Poor's Global Inc. (S&P Global; NYSE: SPGI) has recently announced a strategic partnership with the Canadian AI company Cohere. The collaboration will integrate S&P Global's financial data into Cohere's enterprise-grade AI platform, North, to assist financial institutions in building trusted agent workflows. Through this integration, users can directly access S&P Global's financial data on North for tasks such as research, analysis, and reporting.

Bhavesh Dayalji, Chief AI Officer at S&P Global and CEO of its AI innovation unit Kensho, stated, "We have completed extensive backend preparation to make our data AI-ready, built a retrieval infrastructure, and established partnerships with leading AI service providers. This enables our clients to directly utilize S&P Global's data resources within the platforms they use daily." Frank O'Dowd, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Cohere, noted that this partnership provides financial institutions with a platform to construct workflows connected to proprietary data. Regulated industries require trustworthy AI capable of handling sensitive workloads.

This collaboration represents a key component of S&P Global's strategy to enable multi-platform AI access to its data. Since acquiring Kensho in 2018, the company has consistently invested in building a data retrieval layer to facilitate the broad application of its intelligent data across various AI workflows. The current integration encompasses multiple datasets, including S&P Capital IQ financial data and earnings call transcripts. The LLM-ready API developed by Kensho supports natural language queries and is specifically designed for investment bankers, equity analysts, and consultants. This API employs a simplified architecture, supports function calling patterns, and provides a Python library to streamline authentication and system integration.

As a globally leading provider of financial information services, S&P Global's operations span three major segments: market intelligence, ratings, and indices. Approximately 61% of its 2025 net sales originated from the U.S. market. This partnership with Cohere marks another significant step in the company's efforts to expand its AI ecosystem.
