One of the first four Beijing universities to relocate to Xiong'an New Area, Beijing Jiaotong University held its 130th-anniversary innovation and development conference at the Xiong'an Sports Center on the afternoon of September 10th.

The celebration, themed "百卅知行 京雄致远" (130 Years of Knowledge and Action, Beijing and Xiong'an Moving Forward Together), was broadcast simultaneously across its Beijing campus, Weihai campus, Tangshan Research Institute, and the new Xiong'an campus, showcasing the university's century-old heritage and the new landscape of coordinated development between Beijing and the Xiong'an New Area.

Wu Mingli, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, stated that moving to Xiong'an is both a response to the central government's call and a crucial opportunity for the university's development. He described the initiative as "relocation, restructuring, and renewed brilliance," aiming to rebuild the university's academic ecosystem by leveraging the relocation opportunity to better serve the nation, the Xiong'an New Area, and the broader Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The university is currently developing its "Aichuang Bay Innovation Research Institute Network Cluster" in Xiong'an, which will include 19 innovation research institutes covering fields such as rail transit, big data, and artificial intelligence. The goal is to achieve the integration of the innovation, industrial, capital, and talent chains, facilitating the rapid integration of advantageous disciplines, core technologies, and high-end talent into the development of the New Area.

Zhong Zhangdui, Dean of the Digital Intelligence Rail Transit Research Institute, highlighted the potential for Beijing, Tianjin, and Xiong'an to form an international development hub, leading the construction of a global talent center, a sci-tech innovation center, and an international exchange center.

Focusing on Xiong'an's future industries, Beijing Jiaotong University is establishing emerging interdisciplinary clusters to build a new system integrating transportation, information, and civil engineering, thereby filling the gap in national rail transit safety assessments.

Undergraduate student Jiang Jiacheng, a finance major, expressed enthusiasm for the potential in Xiong'an's green finance, seeing it as a pathway to fulfilling his future career aspirations.

The university's Xiong'an campus spans approximately 2,600 mu, more than double the size of its Haidian campus. The core buildings have already topped out, with the campus scheduled to welcome students in September 2027.

Hu Feifei, Deputy Director of the Xiong'an Campus Construction Office, detailed the campus's spatial structure, designed as "one vertical, three horizontal, one ring, four areas, and five groups." This design integrates academic, research, entertainment, cultural, and sports functions to create a five-minute lifestyle circle for students and faculty.

Alumnus Song Tiande praised the campus's excellent planning, calling it a new starting point for Beijing Jiaotong University's progress towards becoming a world-class university.

Another alumnus, Dong Weimin, a Xiong'an native who returned after her postgraduate studies, expressed hope that the university's strong research capabilities would contribute to the construction of Xiong'an as a smart city.
