Tesla Motors (TSLA.US) CEO Elon Musk on Friday called for people to join his artificial intelligence company xAI to compete against software giant Microsoft (MSFT.US). Musk stated on the X platform: "Join @xAI to help create a pure AI software company called Macrohard. While the name is somewhat playful, this project is real! In principle, given that software companies like Microsoft don't actually produce any physical hardware themselves, it should be possible to fully simulate them with AI."
According to previous media reports, xAI submitted a trademark registration application for "Macrohard" to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on August 1st, a move widely viewed by the public as an open provocation against Microsoft.
It is understood that as early as July 14th, Musk had hinted on the X platform that xAI was preparing an AI subsidiary focused on programming and image generation, with netizens correctly guessing at the time that the new company would be named "Macrohard."
The feud between Musk and Microsoft founder Bill Gates has a long history. Musk has repeatedly publicly criticized Gates for short-selling Tesla Motors, claiming it harms ordinary investors' interests. The two also have serious disagreements on positions regarding climate change, electric vehicles, and other fields.
Microsoft did not respond to media requests for comment.
