Shares of Laureate Education Inc. (LAUR) plummeted 5.65% in pre-market trading on Thursday following the release of the company's second-quarter 2025 financial results. Despite beating revenue expectations, the education provider's earnings per share fell short of analyst estimates, leading to the sharp decline.
Laureate Education reported second-quarter earnings per share of $0.65, missing the consensus estimate of $0.72. However, the company's revenue for the quarter came in at $524.2 million, surpassing the expected $502.00 million. On a reported basis, revenue increased by 5% compared to the same period last year.
While the revenue growth was positive, investors seemed to focus on the earnings miss and the company's updated guidance. Laureate Education raised its full-year 2025 revenue outlook to a range of $1,615 million to $1,630 million, reflecting a more optimistic view on top-line performance. However, this guidance update may not have been enough to offset concerns about the company's profitability, as evidenced by the earnings miss.
