According to a recent public notice from the Office of the National Working Commission on Aging regarding the proposed list of national demonstration age-friendly communities, Jiannong Village in Nanfeng Town, Zhangjiagang City, has been included, fully demonstrating the achievements of Zhangjiagang's high-quality elderly care services.
Facing the reality of a high degree of aging, villagers living in scattered settlements, and difficulties in service coverage, Jiannong Village in Nanfeng Town has actively explored a model of combining medical care with aging in place. The village upgraded barrier-free facilities, rented and renovated civilian houses, and raised funds from multiple sources to build five "Hefangju" home-based elderly care service stations. It implemented a tiered meal assistance policy under which seniors aged 80 and above enjoy free meal assistance, and it delivered various convenient support services. Relying on a digital health care platform, the village established one file per elderly person with refined five-level A, B, C, D, E tiered management, and carried out categorized home visits and care. It also deepened the "Banmu Field" mutual-aid elderly care project, guiding seniors to participate in grassroots governance and cultural and sports activities, cultivating a culture of respecting the elderly and doing good, and creating a model of inclusive aging in place in rural areas.
Next, Nanfeng Town will continue to advance the building of age-friendly communities, improve an elderly care service system that is inclusive, equal, convenient, high-quality, smart, and warm, and help the city's aging cause and elderly care services achieve higher-quality development.
