At a State Council Information Office press conference on September 10, the National Financial Regulatory Administration provided an update on financial sector initiatives under the 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on advancing the nation's financial strength. Deputy Director Cong Lin detailed that efforts to expand agricultural insurance coverage, enhance product offerings, and raise standards have led to 59.7 billion yuan in payouts during the first seven months of the year.
In the realm of pension and health insurance, the industry has accumulated reserves exceeding 13 trillion yuan for related liabilities, underscoring a commitment to elevating service and protection levels. The administration is also guiding insurers to leverage their expertise in risk management by actively engaging in pre-disaster prevention, mid-disaster mitigation, and post-disaster relief, while coordinating risk reduction and claims settlement efforts. In response to recent major natural calamities such as typhoons, mudslides, and earthquakes, insurers have already disbursed 12.2 billion yuan in claims.
Moving forward, the regulator plans to steer financial institutions toward better meeting the credit demands of public welfare sectors like education, sports, culture, and healthcare. This includes optimizing financial services for rural vitalization and persistently improving financing accessibility for small and micro enterprises. Additionally, there is a strong push to foster the growth of commercial pension plans and encourage the expansion and quality enhancement of health insurance products.
Recognizing the unique needs of self-employed individuals and flexible workers, the authority is set to develop tailored inclusive insurance solutions. Moreover, strengthened credit support will be directed toward home purchases, education, healthcare, and vocational training, aiming to better satisfy the aspirations of new employment groups for stable housing and career development.
